Role in project: Participant in WPs 2, 4, 7 & 8

The Province of Limburg is one of the twelve provinces in the Netherlands. Limburg is located in the southeast of the Netherlands, bordering Germany and Belgium. The province is governed at by the provincial parliament and the regional executive. The mission of the Department for Rural Development of the Province of Limburg is to bring about a sustainable and versatile countryside, with specific attention to nature, water and agriculture. This is done through integral policymaking, translated into programmes and projects, and through a development-oriented application of rules and regulations. The Department for Rural Development coordinates these activities and developments and supports external partners and initiators as well as other provincial departments with programme management, knowledge about nature, water and agriculture, and subsidies.

Profile of staff members working on the project: Annemiek Canjels is a Senior EU Public Affairs officer in the Brussels/Maastricht Office for the Province Limburg and partners. Her activities include: Fundraising and programme management, Monitoring and lobbying EU policy / Position Papers and policy proposals; Front Team Innovation; Interlinking EU regions, institutions and / or companies; Stakeholder mapping and network building; Image building, communications and positioning; and Global Governmental Relations. Her fields of expertise are: WTO, Agriculture / Food Innovation, Renewable Energy, Climate Change. She is also member of the Peri-Urban Regions Platform Europe (PURPLE), a  collaboration of local and regional authorities in Europe’s peri-urban regions, focussing on the role and function of agriculture, food and nature in sustainable periurban development.
