Role in project: Participant in WPs 2, 3, 5, 7 & 8

FRCIVAM
gathers 23 associations in Brittany (=CIVAM groups), with the aim of promoting local sustainable development in rural areas. The main issues the groups deal with are a) Sustainable agricultural production, b) Territorial food systems and strategies, c) Entrepreneurship and jobs creation in rural areas, d) Agritourism and social accommodation in farms, and e) Territorial strategies of sustainable development. FRCIVAM has been working for 20 years on innovative projects for short food chains and public procurement. It has been leader or partner in 3 cooperative research programmes on local or alternative food networks, 2 of them under “science in society.” FRCIVAM is used to working with research entities, and also with local authorities. It provides expertise to several authorities, including the pays de Rennes, in order to help them adopt sustainable food strategies. FRCIVAM is involved in public authority networks on food at national (Terres en Villes) level and European levels (Peri-Urban Regions Platform Europe (PURPLE)).

Profile of staff members working on the project: Pascal Aubrée has an MSc in agricultural science. Pascal has been involved in several projects of short food chains and public procurement. He is currently the leader of FRCIVAM on these activities for the eastern part of Brittany. He’s been delivering expertise for local authorities and has written communications for scientific congresses. He’s also a practitioner of box shemes. Blaise Berger has an MSc in rural development. He is in charge of coordination for comercialization activities at FRCIVAM Bretagne. His field activities are focused on the western part of Brittany. He is coordinator at FRCIVAM for training activities on food systems for farmers, consumer and staff of local authorities.
