Role in project: Coordination of WP3, participant in WPs 2, 4, 7 & 8

The main research areas of the Department of Agronomy and Management of the Agro-ecosystem (DAGA) are: agricultural and environmental economics, agronomy, agricultural botany and geobotany, arable crops, rural buildings, and livestock. Within the economics research, the focus is on dynamics of agro-food systems, the role of new food supply chains in sustainable rural development, new trends and alternative strategies in the agro-food system, especially the dynamics of food relocalisation processes as well as the socio-economic impact of sustainable agriculture, sustainable development, marketing of food products, governance in rural areas, participatory methods in rural planning and rural communication. These topics are studied using different qualitative and quantitative research methods and in collaboration with involved stakeholders.

Profile of staff members working on the project: Prof. Gianluca Brunori has a degree in Agriculture, and a PG in Agro-Food Economics. He is a full Professor of Agricultural Economics and Agro-food Economics. Prof. Francesco Di Iacovo has a degree in Animal Production. He is an Associate Professor of Agricultural Economics. Dr. Adanella Rossi has a degree in Agriculture and a PhD in Agricultural Economics and Politics. She is a researcher in rural economics and has international research experience in the field of rural development and agro-food chains and has a special interest in analysis of issues related to new trends and alternative strategies in agro-food systems, linked to the dynamics of food re-localisation processes. Dr. Stefano Grando holds a MSc in European Regional Development from Cardiff University and a PhD in Agrarian Economics from the University of Basilicata. His main research fields are: rural development, nature preservation and local development, sociology of development, organic farming, agro-food supply chains and agrarian history.
