The Baltic Studies Centre (BSC)
is an NGO established for the purpose of research and project management in the field of sustainable rural and regional development. As independent research organization BSC is operating since 1991 and has carried out over 40 research projects including EU Framework Programme projects. The areas of BSC expertise include: regional and rural development, sustainable agriculture, food supply chains, rural innovation, organic farming, multifunctionality of agriculture, collective marketing, community development, rural partnerships, and public policy analysis.

Profile of staff members working on the project: Prof. Dr. Talis Tisenkopfs is director and senior researcher of the Baltic Studies Centre (BSC). He has extensive experience in the research on rural and regional development, food chains, innovation, social capital, community development, and social organization of economics. He is former editor-in-chief of Latvia Human Development Reports, published by UNDP, and a former member of the Commission for Strategic Analysis under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Latvia. Has been the Latvian team leader of 10 EU research projects. Sandra Sumane is a junior researcher at BSC and former Marie Curie scholar. She specializes in rural innovation, collective marketing and organic agriculture and has experience in 6 EU research projects.
