Partners
The FOODLINKS consortium consists of 14 participants – research organizations, public authorities and civil society organizations – from 9 European countries. Wageningen University is the project coordinator.
The FOODLINKS consortium as a whole is characterized by the following aspects:
- The policy partners include the Province of Limburg, The Netherlands; the City of Malmö, Sweden; Scottish Government, Scotland; and the municipality of Tukums, Latvia.
- The research partners include Wageningen University, The Netherlands; the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture, Switzerland; Cardiff University, UK; Pisa University, Italy; the Baltic Studies Centre, Latvia; City University of London, UK; the Inter-University Research Centre for Technology, Work and Culture, Austria; as well as the Basque Institute for Agricultural Research and Development in Spain (Neiker).
- The Civil Society Organisations (CSO) involved include FRCIVAM Bretagne - a regional initiative promoting local sustainable development in rural areas in France and Via Campesina Austria, which serves as a grass roots representation for Austrian mountain farmers.
The policy partners are predominantly local and regional public authorities as the territorial character of the alternative food geography is very important. That is, food related sustainability problems and solutions are context specific and a shift in food governance from the (supra) national level to the regional and local level is occurring. The research organisations and CSOs participating in the FOODLINKS consortium are complementary in their disciplinary and thematic expertise required for this project and together have the expertise to address the multidimensionality of food.
